architecture, stadiums, society
stadium goes beyond architectural designs and technical prowess and addresses social phenomena relating to sport: events, branding, enthusiasm, violence, solidarity, respect, pride, competition, economics, play, passion…
The exhibition tells the story of the stadium using carefully selected material from the fields of architecture, art, and documentary.
Forming the focus of architectural, urban, cultural and social issues as well as the current question of the image of large cities, the stadium is a place that fires the collective imagination. In tune with its time, anchored in its local setting but able to transcend borders, it is an icon that assumes mythical status.
The exhibition presents the Nouveau Stade in relationship to some of the most beautiful stadiums in the world, past and present. A selection of models and photographs presents emblematic stadiums through the ages as well as a new generation of multifunctional complexes. Social themes, the joys of sport, its abuses, and its popular successes are evoked by artworks appealing to all the senses. The exhibition layout plunges the visitor into the familiar and surprising complexity of the modern-day temple that is the stadium.
