How can architecture address ecological emergencies, rapid urbanization, and the memory of places? Drawing on his work and experience, Li Xinggang will explore how architectural projects can create meaningful connections between people, place, and landscape—resulting in architecture that is not merely functional or aesthetic, but vibrant, evolving, and capable of contributing to a more livable city.

Li Xinggang (born in 1969) is a Chinese architect, founder, and director of the Li Xinggang Studio, established in 2003. He is also chief architect at the China Architecture Design & Research Group and a professor at Tianjin University.
A recipient of the 2020 Liang Sicheng Architecture Award—considered one of China’s highest honors in the field of architecture—he was elected a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2023. His notable projects include the Yanqing venue for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. He also served as the lead Chinese architect, alongside Herzog & de Meuron, for the Beijing National Stadium, built for the 2008 Olympic Games.
His work has received numerous international awards, including the RIBA Lubetkin Prize and an IOC/IAKS Architecture Prize. His projects have been featured at the Venice Architecture Biennale as well as in solo exhibitions at the RIBA and the University of Cambridge.
